A new codeshare agreement between Irish carrier Aer Lingus and U.S.-based American Airlines will make travel between Ireland and the US easier. The two airlines announced a codeshare agreement this week.

Codeshare Flights

The codeshare cements a partnership between Aer Lingus and American Airlines that will help to connect passengers and strengthen each airline’s networks.

Passengers with Aer Lingus can now book various American Airlines flights through the codeshare agreement from:

  • Chicago O’Hare (ORD) to Albuquerque (ABQ)
  • Chicago O’Hare (ORD) to Nashville (BNA)
  • Chicago O’Hare (ORD) to Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW)
  • Chicago O’Hare (ORD) to Los Angeles (LAX)
  • Chicago O’Hare (ORD) to Seattle (SEA)
  • Chicago O’Hare (ORD) to San Francisco (SFO)
  • Chicago O’Hare (ORD) to San Jose (SJC)
  • Chicago O’Hare (ORD) to Tucson (TUS)

American Airlines passengers can book the following Aer Lingus flights through the codeshare:

  • London Heathrow (LHR) to Dublin (DUB)
  • Dublin (DUB) to Amsterdam (AMS)
  • Dublin (DUB) to Birmingham (BHX)
  • Dublin (DUB) to London Gatwick (LGW)
  • Dublin (DUB) to Manchester (MAN)
  • London Heathrow (LHR) to Belfast City (BHD)
  • London Heathrow (LHR) to Cork (ORK)
  • London Heathrow (LHR) to Shannon (SNN)

“After almost two years of restricted travel, we know that demand for dream vacations, business travel, and reconnecting families and friends in 2022 and beyond will be stronger than ever. We are delighted that through the codeshare agreement with American Airlines, Aer Lingus customers will be able to avail of greater connectivity options and more seamless travel between the U.S. and Europe via our Dublin hub, which also has the added benefit of US Customs & Border Protection (CBP) pre-clearance located in Dublin.” – Reid Moody, Chief Strategy and Planning Officer, Aer Lingus

Continued Partnership

The newly announced codeshare routes are only the beginning for the two airlines. After Aer Lingus joined the Atlantic Joint Business (AJB) between American Airlines, British, Airways, Iberia, and Finnair last year, the airlines will be looking to continue to build upon the joint venture’s success. The AJB has made it easier for passengers to travel to more destinations with lower fares since its launch in 2010 by allowing passengers to travel seamlessly across partner airlines.

“We are excited to extend our relationship with our newest joint business partner, Aer Lingus, with this codeshare agreement. Through our trans-Atlantic joint business, customers have more choices to key destinations in Europe and now, Ireland.” – Anmol Bhargava, vice president of Alliances, American Airlines

As the national airline of Ireland, Aer Lingus currently operates over 100 routes. American Airlines is one of the world’s largest airlines, with nearly 6,700 flights a day with regional partner American Eagle.
