Portugal is on the Amber List for UK Citizens

For UK citizens heading to Portugal this summer, things may be more complicated for arrivals compared to those choosing other countries on the amber list. Currently, those coming in from Portugal who are unvaccinated will have to isolate on arrival back into the UK.

Similarly, those who arrive in Portugal who haven’t been vaccinated will have to quarantine for two weeks in either their chosen accommodation or a place designated by the health authorities in the country. Many families will face difficulties, as anyone over the age of eighteen will have to be double vaccinated before travelling. If not, it is unlikely the airline will even let them onto the plane.

Anyone arriving in Portugal must have proof of a negative Covid test if the traveller is over the age of twelve. Everyone will receive a temperature screening on arrival into the country. If a person’s temperature reads over 38 degrees, individuals may be asked to take another Covid test while staying at the airport. These are Portugal’s own rules and do not apply to arrivals in other countries on the amber list.

It hasn’t been plain sailing for holidaymakers travelling to Portugal this year. In early June, many faced disaster as the country moved abruptly from the green list to amber. Many families had to rush to get home before the quarantine rules changed on their arrival back into the UK.
